atelier ORA was founded in Zurich in 2019 by Enrique Orti and Ilaria Riscassi. Working across Switzerland, Italy, and Spain, our practice is driven by a deep sensitivity to context, focusing on the transformation of existing structures, the use of regenerative materials, and the social role of architecture. We engage with urban densification, evolving ways of living and learning, and sustainable development, always seeking a balance between built and unbuilt space.
We see architecture as a process of careful transformation—of materials, spaces and ways of inhabiting them. Our approach is rooted in the idea that meaningful architecture emerges from working with what is already there, whether by adapting existing structures, strengthening local identities, or integrating ecological strategies that minimize environmental impact.
Every project is shaped by its social, cultural, and economic context. We work across scales, from housing and educational buildings to public spaces and cultural projects, always with a focus on atmosphere, materiality, and spatial quality. Through both built work and competitions, we take an active part in the architectural discourse, seeking to create spaces that are ecologically responsible and socially meaningful.
Our team brings together diverse perspectives and expertise, strengthening our approach to architecture as a collaborative process. Currently, part of the team are: Martina Avanzi, Marta Brovelli, Valentina Roncoroni, Melinda Maffezzini, Pieter-Jan Van Steen, and Laura Steenbeke.
